About the firm

Advice grounded in context. Support built around execution.

We are a small, founder-led advisory practice. Our work sits where sound analysis meets the practical reality of getting something done.

Our purpose

To help good organisations make better decisions — and then carry them out.

Most organisations do not fail for want of ideas. They struggle because a decision was taken on incomplete information, because a plan was never converted into something operable, or because the capacity to see it through was not there when it mattered.

Gladius exists to close those gaps. We work with businesses, investors, institutions and public-sector leaders on the questions that shape direction — where to grow, whether to invest, what a venture is worth, how to enter a market, how to make an operation perform — and we stay involved while the answer is put into practice.

Our work is rooted in Nigeria and reaches across Africa and internationally. The discipline we bring is consistent wherever the engagement sits: understand the context properly, test the assumptions, and be straight about what the evidence supports.

The founder-led model

Senior from the first meeting to the last.

A familiar frustration with advisory work is the distance between the people who win the engagement and the people who deliver it. We are structured to remove that distance entirely: the founders scope the work, do the thinking, write the analysis and present it.

Where an engagement calls for additional specialist input, we say so openly and bring in trusted collaborators under our direction — never as a substitute for our own involvement.

It is a deliberately unfashionable model. It scales slowly. It also means clients get continuity of judgement, quick decisions and a relationship with people who remember the detail of their business.

Working principles

How we approach an engagement.

We start with the question behind the question

Clients rarely arrive with a neatly defined problem, and the brief is not always the issue. We spend real time at the outset establishing what decision is actually being made and what would change it.

Evidence, not assertion

Every recommendation traces back to something checkable — a number, a source, an observation, a stated assumption. Where the evidence is thin we say so rather than dressing a guess in confident language.

Fewer engagements, closer attention

We deliberately limit how much work we take on. It keeps the founders directly involved and means responses come in hours rather than weeks.

Built for the client's context

A model, plan or operating design is only useful if the organisation can run it after we leave. We build to the team's real capacity, systems and rhythm.

Candour, delivered well

Part of the value of an outside adviser is the freedom to say the difficult thing. We do that plainly, privately and without drama.

Discretion by default

We treat every engagement as confidential. We do not trade on client names, and we do not discuss work that is not ours to discuss.

Our values

Four commitments we hold ourselves to.

Clarity
Complex situations, plainly explained. If it cannot be said simply, it is not yet understood.
Integrity
Honest counsel, careful with facts, comfortable saying what a client would rather not hear.
Partnership
We work as an extension of the team, not as visitors passing through with a deck.
Results
Success is measured by what changes in the business, not by what was delivered on paper.

Get in touch

If you are weighing a decision, we are happy to think it through with you.

An initial conversation is confidential, without obligation, and usually the fastest way to work out whether we can be useful.
